The Position: The Sales Planning and Market Intelligence Analyst plays a critical role in supporting strategic decision-making across Sales, Product, Marketing, and Executive Leadership. This role blends market research, sales planning, and competitive intelligence to uncover trends, opportunities, and risks that impact both near-term performance and long-term strategy. The Sales Planning and Market Intelligence Analyst is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing complex data into clear, actionable insights that inform sales strategy, forecasting, customer dynamics, industry trends, and competitor activity. This role requires intellectual curiosity, attention to detail, and the ability to translate data into meaningful recommendations that directly influence business outcomes.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Conduct in-depth research on customers, competitors, industry trends, and regulatory developments across the trailer and truck body markets.
  • Track economic indicators, demand signals, and market forces that influence Great Dane’s business.
  • Develop and maintain databases of market size, share, segmentation, and performance benchmarks.
  • Design and conduct primary research initiatives (e.g., surveys, interviews, focus groups) and synthesize secondary research from internal and external sources.
  • Monitor and summarize competitor activities, including product launches, partnerships, pricing, and strategic moves.
  • Produce reports, dashboards, and executive briefings that highlight market dynamics, risks, and emerging opportunities.
  • Partner with Sales Leadership on territory planning, goal setting, pipeline tracking, and resource allocation.
  • Develop market forecasts, scenario models, and “what-if” analyses to support sales strategy and performance planning.
  • Integrate market insights into sales forecasts to identify growth opportunities and mitigate risks.
  • Evaluate product and channel mix to guide go-to-market execution.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Product Management, Sales, and Executive Leadership to align insights with business priorities.
  • Support strategic initiatives such as mergers & acquisitions, channel development, pricing, and customer intelligence with ad hoc research and analysis.
  • Build compelling presentations and deliver concise insights that translate complex data into actionable recommendations.
  • Leverage data analytics and visualization tools (e.g., SQL, dashboards) to transform raw data into meaningful insights while ensuring data integrity and consistency.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

YOUR SKILLS & ABILITIES (REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS)

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Market Research, Data Analytics, or a related field
  • Experience: 2+ years of experience in market research, sales planning, or business/market intelligence role; experience in B2B manufacturing or transportation industries a plus
    • Experience with Salesforce, SQL, or survey tools (e.g., Qualtrics)
  • Skills: Understanding of supply chain, OEM business models, or commercial vehicle markets
    • Curiosity about market trends, innovation, and what drives customer behavior
    • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to interpret and present complex data
    • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
    • Familiarity with CRM Systems (Salesforce preferred) and syndicated market research sources
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to convey insights clearly and succinctly while influencing both peers and senior leaders
    • Highly organized self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
