Overview

The Configuration Engineer is responsible for designing specific product configuration logic and categories – i.e. trailer body, electrical exterior, refrigeration, suspension, rear doors etc. - in the 3D CAD environment that accurately reflects and produces solid models and production quality drawings. Configuration engineer will use product features and option selection codes to build highly diverse product configurations selections that will produce all desired results for Materials to procure inventory, Manufacturing to build the product and ultimately Sales to present the correct finished product to each customer. This role also maintains product configurator tool which will be used by the Production Engineering Department to perform their job duties

Responsibilities

  • Develop feature and option selection logic for engineering design selection charts and templates.
  • Develop product templates that remove and replace components to deliver a final 3D CAD product.
  • Coordinate the modeling and development of all parts necessary for completion of an assembly or product by trailer category.
  • Follow all parts and template driven assemblies through validation, testing and final design release.
  • Maintain and update templates and 3D model files as required.
  • Provide CAD related technical direction to production and design engineers.
  • Influences overall project direction and standards.
  • Assists with the development of unique solutions to complex problems.
  • Able to work on cross functional team setting
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education:   A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Computer Graphics Technology or equivalent work experience.
  • Has 5-years minimal trailer design experience using CATIA and/or SolidWorks
  • Experience with CATIA annotated models or model based definition.
  • Use CATIA Knowledge Advisor Workbench to produce the desired results based on the logic
  • Use CATIA Functional Tolerance & Annotation workbench to annotate models.
  • Working knowledge of CATIA V5 with minimally 5000 seat hours
  • Proficient with CATIA workbenches of ‘Part body’, ‘Sheetmetal’, ‘Drafting’, and ‘Assembly’
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Excel and Visual basic
  • Self-motivated, independent thinking; executes projects with minimal supervision.
  • Desire to own decisions and take responsibility for outcome.
  • Multitask from trailer category to trailer category daily.
  • Can quickly review existing template logic, ascertain, problem solve then perform maintenance.
  • Has demonstrated exceptional abilities in one, or more than one, of the qualifications above.
  • Occasional travel to remote manufacturing plant when specific product assignment is not available for normal viewing.
